Raúl García

Colombian violist Raúl García is recognized as one of the most outstanding violists of his generation. He has performed on world-class stages such as Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the National Arts Centre, the Teatro Colón, and the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara, among others.
As a passionate soloist and chamber musician, Raúl regularly participates in music festivals such as the St. Lawrence String Quartet Chamber Music Seminar, the Innsbrook Institute, the Zukerman Young Artist Program, the Pacific Music Festival, the Youth Orchestra of the Americas (FOSJA), Yellow Barn, the Perlman Music Program, the Menuhin Gstaad Festival, the Guadalajara International Music Festival, Pro Música San Miguel de Allende, and the Esmeraldas International Music Festival.
Raúl earned his undergraduate degree with honors Magna Cum Laude at the Juan N. Corpas University Foundation; a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma at the Yale School of Music; and a Doctor of Musical Arts at Rutgers University, where he studied with Choong-Jin Chang, principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. During his time at Yale, Raúl received the 2010 Georgina Lucy Grosvenor Memorial Viola Prize. His teachers and mentors include Octavio Carmona, Aníbal Dos Santos, Joseph de Pasquale, Jesse Levine, Toby Appel, Ettore Causa, Roger Tapping, C. J. Chang, and the Tokyo String Quartet.
Most recently, Raúl was appointed Assistant Principal Viola of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, after serving for a decade as Principal Viola of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia (2013–2023). He has been invited to give masterclasses both in Colombia and abroad, including at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Lynn University, the University of Montreal, and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. He is currently on the faculty of the Juan N. Corpas University Foundation and the Pontifical Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia.
